Preparing workforce for future work in new normal

Future workforce may require new set of skills to combat new normal. They might be mix of all skills known so far or add few new unique ones to their portfolios to fight the unseen. They need to wear multiple hats to bring about the desired results at work. They need to be jack of all trades! Lets us consolidate the desired skill set for future workforce in this blog!

Be the Unicorn in your area of work! Possess these following skills and work on them if even one of them is lacking in your profile.

According to the world economic forum, future workforce need to be prepared, for 4th industrial revolution and should have following 10 skill set in their arsenal:

  1. Critical problem solving
  2. Creativity
  3. Critical Thinking
  4. People management
  5. Coordination
  6. Emotional Intelligence
  7. Judgement and decision making
  8. Negotiation
  9. Service Provider
  10. Cognitive flexibility.

These are some of the skills where human intervention works. As machines still do not have, the capability to think creatively and emotionally. These qualities are still “God Gifted” to Humans.

Leverage these qualities of yours to still be the best in job market. For rest of the capabilities, as automation in computing, analyzing , comparing and furnishing better working models in research and analytics, machines may be a tough competition for you. Though above mentioned 10 qualities and skill sets are still exclusive, to individual humans. Make the best use of them!

According to a data research around 375 million people have to change their occupations due to automation!

Leave aside jobs, you may not be able to drive your own electric cars very soon:)

Thanks to electric car innovations making rounds! Take a leap…. be more creative and think about innovative car designs. This could be one area of interest for example.

Utilize critical thinking, think through psychological point of view of autonomous car and create software to fight weather conditions and unique scenarios that fully autonomous vehicle can face in future. “Superthink” how car will behave in blizzard or heavy rainfall and snow and harsh weather conditions, road constructions, at complicated intersections and crossings.

Some measures that can be taken to prepare future workforce may be:

  • Transform talent in workforce
  • Make workforce ready to wear multiple hats
  • Encourage them to be flexible and adaptable enough, for certain roles and try to extend themselves in other skills
  • Change mindset and make them ready to learn new skills and transform
  • Change curriculum in schools to teach new practical skills
  • Partner with schools and universities to find talent, match and train them into desired skillset to create niche workforce.
  • Initiate collaboration with recruitment groups and government agencies to groom talent.
