Artificial Intelligence (AI)is the intelligence exhibited by machines to perform tasks that generally require human beings and associated human intelligence, to complete. AI is a simulation of human intelligence processes and activities by machine processes especially, computer systems. AI is the fuel behind the invention and tremendous growth in the areas of Big Data, Robotics and IoT, and Machine Learning. Research work is being done in this area, to create algorithms and generate Emotional Intelligence feed for Machines to solve social isolation, depression, and loneliness.

Introduction to AI

Artificial Intelligence is the machine intelligence different from human intelligence in a way that computer system only imitate Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) required to complete a given task. It is just the cognitive intelligence required for “learning” and “problem solving”.

Though the efforts are being made in direction to make machine imitate natural human intelligence of emotions. Also known as Artificial Biological Intelligence (ABI) such as “emotional intelligence”. This is natural intelligence, inherent emotions which only humans so far, can experience.

Some of the specific applications of AI are Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech recognitions and Machine vision. In general AI expert systems have covered all latest applications and technologies and invaded our lives such that we never ever realize that we are dealing with them on a daily basis. Mobile assistants as Siri, Alexa, Google AI, Virtual assistants, Telecommunication systems to driverless cars.

It means that in near future we have to compete not only with humans and intelligent beings but the superintelligent machines as well:) By 2030 AI will outperform humans in most mental tasks. Never forget though, that ultimate creators of these superintelligent beings are their natural counterparts!

Risks involved in making machines more intelligent is that machines might become “superintelligent” and posses threat for humanity. At some point of time will become impossible to control and who knows what surprises are there in future?

Intelligence explosion might lead to some bigger challenges for human race! We all already are aware of some scenes from futuristic sci-fi movies.

History of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence was founded in year 1955 as a discipline by Herbert Simon and Allen Newell. They developed the first Logic Theorist artificial intelligence program.

John McCarthy coined the term Artificial Intelligence in 1956 in a Dartmouth Conference where he held academic conference on this subject.Past more than sixty years AI scientists are striving to reach a point to create a machine/ computer that can match human intelligence and pass Turing Test.

In 1950 An English Mathematician Alan Turing published a paper titled “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” that opened the field of AI research and machine learning.

Turing Test is a test or a goal in AI research to create a machine, a computer that can sufficiently imitate a human so that a judge can not differentiate between the two- human and machine.

Who should learn AI

One can begin their AI journey by studying and gaining knowledge in following mentioned areas. Artificial intelligence is an established still growing and emerging branch that is beneficial for following professionals:

Developers : Knowledge of Python, C++, Java, LISP, Prolog is important

Engineers : To become AI Engineers one require the knowledge in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Programming, Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, Computer Research scientist, Data Analysts, Database Administrators, Information Security Analysts, Software Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers

Managers: Information Technology Managers

Architects: Knowledge of Information Architecture and Software

Analytics professionals: Information Security Analysts, Data Analysts

One can choose the relevant degrees and gain deeper knowledge by searching relevant courses and programs either on campus or online and increase your AI knowledge and be prepared to create better workforce in future.

Emotional Intelligence

Machines can understand some extent of emotions and react to them. Emotions as anger, happiness, sadness and so on.

Companies as Softbank Robotics and Hanson Robotics have created robots that can read human emotions and react to them. Programming AI and Robots with human emotions is interesting field of robotics research and development.

Feeding Emotional Intelligence

“Affectiva” was the first business to market Artificial emotional intelligence.

Company has trained and fed artificial algorithms of six million faces extracted from 87 countries so that machine can detect seven emotions as anger, joy, disgust, sadness surpirse, contempt and fear.

The use of radio waves to measure heartrate and breathing is also being used to measure human feelings, in the absence of facial expression, to feed machines the required human emotions. Deep feelings with Deep Learning are latest research in the field of machine learning and robotics.

Though it seems unnecessary at this time may be utilized to solve complex futuristic Psychological problems in humans due to increasing social isolation, depression and loneliness!
